Shawnee Core is proud to be based in rural Southern Illinois.  We recycle because, while profitable at times, more importantly, we believe it is also a necessary commitment to life on Earth and future generations. 

The property that is home to Shawnee Core is also home to some of its employees.  While we are unable at this time to collect from the public any recyclables other than auto-parts, the four households on our property recycle everything that can be recycled in this area at this time: glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, metal, batteries, electronics, and we re-use as much as we can in terms of building and other materials.  Shawnee Core has an unwavering commitment to the health of the environment.  We encourage all of our customers to turn off their engines while they wait.     

As members of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, whenever possible, we support other small businesses in our community before resorting to spending our dollars with large, outside corporations.  And, of course, all of our labor is 100% local!  We always strive to provide the people who work for us-be it employees or contractors-with a living wage and a productive and positive work environment. 

Our land is kept almost entirely chemical-free.  We take great pride in being good stewards of the beautiful piece of property that Shawnee Core occupies, surrounded by the Shawnee National Forest.  

We are blessed and believe in giving back.  While Shawnee Core supports the work of countless local and global charities and causes, we contribute regularly to Pets Are Worth Saving (PAWS), based in Anna, Illinois, because we believe in showing compassion to animals and ending the companion animal overpopulation crisis in America, and specifically in Southern Illinois.
